Rumi

Peaceful is the one who’s not concerned with having more or less. Unbound by name and fame, he is free from sorrow from the world and mostly from himself.

Rumi 1200b

Persians and Afghanis call Rumi "Jelaluddin Balkhi." He was born September 30, I107, in Balkh, Afghanistan, which was then part of the Persian empire. The name Rumi means "from Roman Anatolia."

Being

Take someone who doesn’t keep score, who’s not looking to be richer, or afraid of losing, who has not the slightest interest even in his own personality: he’s free.

What I Want Also Wants Me

When I run after what I think I want, my days are a furnace of distress and anxiety; If I sit in my own place of patience, what I need flows to me, and without any pain.

From this I understand that what I want also wants me, is looking for me and attracting me. There is a great secret in this for anyone who can grasp it.

Achieve Some Perfection Yourself

Achieve some perfection yourself, so that you may not fall into sorrow by seeing the perfection in others.

We Are the Universe in Motion

You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean, in a drop. Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.

We carry inside us the wonders we seek outside us.

Flowing

A wealth you cannot imagine flows through you.

Death

Death has nothing to do with going away. The sun sets. The moon sets. But they are not gone.

Desire

I should be suspicious of what I want.

Seeking

What you seek is seeking you.

Acceptance

The moment you accept what troubles you’ve been given, the door will open.

Let Yourself Be Silently Drawn

Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.

Life is a Balance

Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.

I learned that every mortal will taste death. But only some will taste life.

Learning

Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment. Cleverness is mere opinion. Bewilderment brings intuitive knowledge.

Patience Is the Key to Joy

Patience is the key to joy. Submit to a daily practice. Keep knocking and the joy inside will eventually open a window.

Run from What's Comfortable

Run from what’s comfortable. Forget safety. Live where you fear to live. Destroy your reputation. Be notorious. I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now on I’ll be mad.

Searching

Maybe you are searching among the branches, for what only appears in the roots.

Be Grateful for Your Life

Be grateful for your life, every detail of it, and your face will come to shine like a sun, and everyone who sees it will be made glad and peaceful.

Seekers are Finders

Whether one moves slowly or with speed, the one who is a seeker will be a finder.

The Way Appears

As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.

Anyone who genuinely and consistently with both hands looks for something, will find it.

Love

Love is the bridge between you and everything.

Love as a Teacher

Let your teacher be love itself.

A Life Without Love Isn’t a Life

If destiny comes to help you, love will come to meet you. A life without love isn’t a life.

Your Heart Knows the Way

Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.

It's Your Road and Yours Alone

It’s your road and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

The Way Appears

As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.

Your Task Is Not to Seek for Love

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.

Laugh, Love and Breathe

Laugh as much as you breathe. Love as long as you live.

Trusting Love

Whatever lifts the corners of your mouth, trust that.

Gamble Everything for Love

Gamble everything for love, if you are a true human being. Halfheartedness does not reach into majesty!

Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase ‘each other’
doesn’t make any sense.
